In Çanakkale, after 17 years of treatment due to kidney failure, Hatice Ayçin regained her health with the kidney donated by a patient with brain death. Ayçin, who kept her bag ready at all times after applying to the organ transplant center for the transplant, expressed that she was happy to regain her health.

Living in Edremit district of Balıkesir, married and mother of one, Hatice Ayçin was diagnosed with kidney failure due to hypertension in 2007. Ayçin received medical treatment for 9 years, but could not get results. Starting dialysis in 2016, Hatice Ayçin applied to Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Hospital Organ Transplant Center for organ donation and started waiting. The good news for Ayçin came 1.5 years later from Balıkesir. The kidney taken from a patient with brain death was determined to be compatible with Ayçin. Hatice Ayçin regained her health with this transplanted kidney.

“She kept her phone close”

Prof. Dr. Cabir Alan provided information about Ayçin’s treatment process and said, “The patient tried to manage the process with medical treatments without dialyzing for 9 years. However, she had to be connected to dialysis 8 years ago because of end-stage kidney failure. An effort was made to take a kidney from her spouse. However, the transplant could not be performed due to tissue incompatibility. She couldn’t ask for a kidney from her own child. 1.5 years ago, she applied to our center for kidney transplantation. It was a long process. The risk was high for Hatice Hanım. It was close to the 10th year and complications had begun. She kept her bag ready every night, with her phone close by, waiting for a kidney to come out at any moment. 10 days ago, after a family in Balıkesir donated their organs following brain death, the kidney was transplanted to Hatice Hanım. Hatice Hanım regained her health with a successful 2-hour operation. Today we will discharge Hatice Hanım” he said.

“I invite everyone to donate organs”

Hatice Ayçin, stating that reattaching to life is very beautiful, said, “The illness overwhelmed me physically and mentally. I was waiting every moment as if I were about to die. Donating organs means living. Living means life. Life is beautiful with family. I invite everyone to donate organs. I kept my bag ready at all times. I waited hopefully. Our phone rang at one moment. We were asked to be here in 2 hours, we came in a hurry. I am very happy to regain my health” she said. (DHA)
